Working with you has made learning the language really easy. You are fun and entertaining while teaching. I hope you incorporate more assignments to reinforce what was learned to help to remember.

Eliaquim is one of the most magnificant professionals and individuals I have met in my life. He is an outstanding wordsmith and exceptionally skilled polyglot. He is very focused in his teaching methodology. He is a superb listener during language sessions. He presents questions, listens and responds with more questions and deeper drill-down into vocabulary, and the deep and diverse expanse of meaning that derives from what seemed like a simple conversation. Eli not only enriched my Portuguese, but I am forever in debt to him for motivating me to study Chinese. Could I possibly recommend him more highly?

Quando me mudei para o Brasil precisava muito aprender português rápido para poder viver aqui. Em dois anos não só aprendi português com o Eli, mas ganhei um amigo também.

I am really enjoying my one-on-one classes with Eli. Not only is he very knowledgeable, but he is professional and patient, as I grasp Brazilian Portugues. He puts a lot of work into his teaching videos, books and email stories to increase my comprehension. I also enjoy listening to his podcast channel. I am very happy that I discovered him on YouTube.

Eli, You are an excellent professor and I enjoy our classes. My only suggestions are possibly peculiar to me. 1. More targeted homework, for example, assignments regarding specific activities such as activities at the beach, shopping at the grocery store, etc. 2. Provide examples of the most common idiomatic expressions in Brazilian Portuguese; 3. Every language finds native speakers taking shortcuts with their language. For example, in English, speakers will regularly say "gotcha" instead of I got it or I got you, or I understand. What are some common Brazilian Portuguese shortcuts that native Brazilian Portuguese speakers use? Those are just some thoughts I had. Take care, Michael

Eli has been my Portuguese teacher for 5 years. I am not a stranger to language learning as I have previously studied 3 other languages, earning a Bachelors Degree in French in 1997. Eli is, by far, the most engaging, language teacher I have ever had. I progressed more rapidly in our one on one video lessons than I have ever progressed in language learning before. The gift of being able to communicate in the native language of my then-boyfriend, now husband, is one that I cannot ever repay! My relationships with my Brazilian family are deeper than they ever could have been had I never worked with Eli. I continue to use his videos and podcasts to improve my skills and will engage in more private lessons with him to prepare for the CELPE-BRAS one day. Muito obrigada, meu professor pelo tudo. Eli is a born teacher who is very relaxed, full of alegria (the Brazilian brand of joy), knowledgeable, outgoing and genuinely cares for each and every student. Although he hardly ever shows off, he’s a virtuoso speaker of more than a handful of languages. Whether in a one-on-one lesson, a pre-recorded podcast/video clip, or a group workshop, his unmissable talent, easy charm and patience, impressive humor and enthusiasm in teaching Portuguese are brimming at the seams. As a professional translator and a multi-linguist myself, I admire him for his vast accomplishment and generous capacity to share what he has mastered. I first took note of Eli by way of his podcast, enchanted with his sense of humor and infectious laugh as well as the readily accessible richness of his original contents. Since then I’ve been his student meeting on Zoom almost every week. We never run out of things to talk about — music, film, books, food, travel, people, etc. — and so the lessons go on, while my confidence keeps growing with my capacities. Quero que as aulas continuem sem fim.

Oi Eli, quando eu comecei a ter aulas com você eu fiquei nervosa, mas depois da primeira aula, eu adorei. A primeira impressão que eu tive foi que você e muito profissional e que sabe mexer com o computador, o que é muito importante quando a aula é online. Sua maneira de ensinar é muito prática e simples e muito relaxada e faz que o aluno pratique português. Eu gosto que você faz anotações do que se falou na aula, para a gente verificar depois. Quando eu cometo erros, você me corrige sem me fazer sentir mal. (Eu agradeço muito) Você diz: "nós dizemos de..." e escreve a palavra correta; quando eu falo alguma coisa correta, você faz uma careta de "muito bem" e isso me faz sentir con vontade de seguir tentando. Você é uma pessoa muito legal e amável, e eu acho que você é um excelente Professor.

As aulas com Eli são ótimas. Ele está sempre bem preparado, tem ideias criativas e é muito divertido aprender com ele. Não poderia ser melhor.

Eli is a phenomenal teacher. He is incredibly patient and has a gentle and effective way of correcting errors. Although I am generally self-conscious with speaking, I feel confident speaking with Eli because he creates a safe, judgment-free space to communicate. This may be in part because he himself has learned many languages! As far as the conversation classes, he always brings an interesting, current topic to talk about and the hour flies by. The experience has exceeded my expectations!
